  • Two- Lugged Chopping Axe – A Swedish axe developed during the 7th century. Primarily, this axe thought to have been used for felling trees as well as for timbering when building houses and boats. This replica is made from an 11th century axe found on the island of Gotland of the Swedish Coast. It comes with a straight handle about 75cm long. The bevel is 7cm. The weight is approximately 1.3kg. This axe cost: £169

 

 

 

  • Two-Lugged Beard Axe (Broad Axe) – This axe was also developed during the 7th century. The broad axe originally came from Western & Central Europe and developed into two types, the two- and the four-lugged type. The two lugged were often quite big and heavy with short handles. This axe was mainly used for woodwork like cutting and smoothing planks. This type of axe was essential for boat and house building in Viking times. This replica is based on a 11th century axe also found on Gotland. It has got a straight 75cm handle. A 15cm bevel and weighs approximately 1.6kg. The price of this axe is: £195

 

 

  •  Four-Lugged Chopping Axe – A Norwegian axe from the 7th century. Characterised by its four eye-lugs: two above and two under the eye. It also has a relatively wide, curved edge. This axe seems to have been used for most things like a hatchet or working axe and also as a weapon. The replica is based on an axe from the 9th century, found in Skåne in Southern Sweden. The handle is straight and 60cm long. The bevel is 12cm and it weighs about 1kg. This replica costs: £185

 

 

  • Battle Axe – The battle-axe was developed in the Nordic countries in the 10th century. It has got four eye-lugs, two above and two below the eye. The blade is very wide and thin and an accentuated steel edge. This type of axe was very fashionable in Viking times, owning such an axe showed power and dignity. This replica is based on an original that has been used in Viking times, it was found in Jämtland in the middle of Sweden, not far from the Gränsfors forge. The price of this axe is: £349

 

 

  • Danish Broad Axe – The original is from the 11th century, but this type of axe has probably existed much longer ago. Its characteristics are a very long extended blade or bevel. It was mostly used for woodwork like cutting and smoothing planks for boat and house building. The original was found in Roskilde, Denmark. The handle is curved and 50cm long. The bevel is 37cm and the weight is approximately 1.3kg. This axe costs: £275

 

 

  • Bearded Axe with Eye-Socket – A Northern European axe from the 12th century. Axes with eye-sockets started to appear in the early Middle Ages in Europe. They had a long sturdy eye-socket and also a wide edge. It was used for timbering and to split logs, it might also have been used for some carpentry. This replica is based on several axe types from the early Middle Ages. The handle is straight and 60cm long. The edge is 12cm long and the weight is approximately 1.1kg. This axe costs £149

 

 

  • The Dakota Tomahawk or the French Trade Axe – This axe is based on the axes that were used by the French when trading with the Native American Indians. It’s also very good for throwing. However throwing tomahawks is not as easy as the double headed ones at the top of the page. The tomahawk weighs less than 1 kg and the handle is about 60cm long. This axe costs £139

 

 

  • The British Trade axe or the Belt Axe – This axe is also based on a trading axe, this time it’s a British version of the one above. A sturdier axe for more standard hatchet or small axe work. This axe weighs approximately 1kg and has a 60cm handle. This axe is £129
