On this page we are having all kinds of cool gear that doesn’t fit under any of the other headings. We have reindeer hides in two different versions, either for sleeping on or just ornamental. We will have a small range of Muurikka Skillets – Finnish tripod skillets to put either straight on the fire or on the BBQ.
We are also stocking an old favourite the MayaSticks®-fantastic natural firelighters for the stove, BBQ or AGA.
We will also put on anything else that we will be stocking so come back often and have a look.
Reindeer Hides

Fur-side of the hide The back of a silicon-lined fur
Reindeer hides is one of natures great insulators, with its hollow fibre hair it will keep you warm for much longer than other types of hides or therma-rests and what ever they are all called. They are also beautiful on the wall or as a throw on your bed or sofa. They differ a bit in size from 4 to 5 feet in length and about 2.5 to 3.5 foot wide. The colouring of the hides differs from almost white to very dark brown, you can choose whatever you prefer, subject to availability. Now we’ve also started stocking siliconed off-cuts that can be used as very warm seats. These range quite a bit in size but are at least 300x300mm, but sometimes quite a bit bigger.
Our reindeer hides come in three different versions:
The standard hide - has been tanned, so it will not start smelling like non-tanned hides. However, this version should be kept dry at all times otherwise it may start shedding its hair. This version is ideal for ornamental purposes, like a fireside rug, a throw on your bed or as a wall ornament. If you have the hide on the floor, make sure that you put something under it, like a non-slip net. The reason for this is not mainly because of the risk of slipping but to prevent condensation forming under the hide.
The siliconed hide – this hide is for outdoor use, but can also be used indoors. It has been treated with silicone and therefore it’s waterproof so you use outdoors as well as inside. These hides are excellent for bringing on a camping trip, since they are very good insulators and also very comfortable to sleep on since they are so thick.
The reindeer seat – Off-cuts of the siliconed hides, ideal to use as seats when waiting at a shoot or other types of events.

A Muurikka skillet is a Finnish three-legged iron skillet, ideal for cooking over an open fire. The three legs do screw on and off and there is a handle on each side of the cooking surface. We are stocking 2 different models: The Muurikka 48 & the Muurikka 58, the numbers signify the diameter in centimetres. The cooking surface is similar to that of a cast iron pan, which means you get a good even heat distribution. Also, you avoid that famous taste of lighting fluid that has become synonymous with the BBQ. A good accessory for your Muurikka is the very hardwearing transportation bag the can be bought separately.

New! for this year is the Picnic Muurikka. This handy little (260mm diameter) version is much lighter (only 800g) than his bigger brothers and is ideal for bringing camping. The handle can be screwed off and it even comes in a sturdy carry bag.

MayaSticks®
The most natural
and efficient firelighter on the market, MayaSticks® are made from
very resinous pine sticks from Guatemala and Mexico. The sticks will burn for
up to 30 minutes and omit very high heat, this thus make the MayaSticks®
ideal for use with the BBQ, the wood- or coal burning stove and the like. Since
the MayaSticks® are completely combustible they are very
environmentally friendly.
To get the most out of your MayaSticks®, you should break or split the stick and put it under the material that you’re trying to light (do make sure that there is enough oxygen, however). If you use the MayaSticks® on the BBQ you must make sure that the sticks are completely combusted before you put the food on, this will take between 15 and 30 minutes, compare with firelighters and lighting fluid that will take a minimum of 1 hour. For a normal BBQ you will need between 1 and 3 sticks depending on the size of stick.
