After what can only be described as a challenging year we are delighted to announce some good news coming out of Nordic HQ! In late June we will be opening our newest store – a flagship unit within Edinburgh’s new St. James Quarter. Showcasing the best in Scandinavian Outdoor Clothing & Equipment our new concept store will help to reimagine the traditional view of the ‘outdoors’ with a modern and contemporary approach. While the logo may have changed and we step foot into a new location our number one focus is still on selling the best in Scandinavian designed and inspired outdoor kit, with every product selected to ensure style, function and sustainability.

Since we started out back in 2005 we have been proud to be flying the flag for Scandinavian outdoor clothing and fashion and since those initial weekends at outdoor and game fairs we have grown to now have four stores across Edinburgh, Keswick and London. This exciting new step into the St. James Quarter is an opportunity to reach a new generation of outdoor customers alongside our loyal customer base in the city.

Our new store and new logo are designed to reflect a more modern approach to the outdoors. Nordic Outdoor’s Founder Caspar Odqvist explains

“The customers we see shopping with us today are different from those we may have seen 5 years ago. Now we see a lot more young, city based customers who want to experience the outdoors as an escape from the city and may be more inclined to spend weekends doing ‘mini-adventures’. The past year of lockdown has reminded people of the value in spending time outdoor and the boom in staycations and camping has helped us reach a new audience and share our vision of the outdoors with them. To reflect this change in audience we’ve expanded our product range in outdoor lifestyle and introduced a new logo which we feel better represents the Nordic Outdoor of 2021.”

 No longer is the ‘outdoor lover’ a term restricted to weather beaten mountaineers or winter campers – in the past year we all have found an appreciation for spending time in nature. Key to this enjoyment is the right kit and Nordic Outdoor is built on the belief that the most sustainable choice we can all make is to buy less and buy better. Outdoor Style has spilled from the mountains to the streets and the ability to blend your outdoor wardrobe with your daily wardrobe allows us all to spend a little bit more time with nature.

Nordic Outdoor St James Quarter will showcase some of the best outdoor clothing brands around with collections from the likes of Fjällräven, Amundsen Sports, Klättermusen and Didriksons while also offering technical offerings from the likes of Aclima and Norrøna. With a wide range of equipment also on offer from handcrafted Swedish Axes to Japanese Firepits and Nordic Tipi’s the new store will allow customers the opportunity to create the perfect ‘outdoors’ for them.

Founder Caspar Odqvist explains what kind of products you can expect to see in the new flagship; “Everything in our new store will be designed for enjoying the outdoors and having fun. While the brands we offer are some of the best ‘technical’ outdoor brands around we want to appeal to everyone who enjoys spending time outdoors – whether this is in the park or up a mountain. The Scandinavian mindset around the outdoors is that it is open to everyone with no barriers to entrance and we want to promote this approach of enjoying nature within the UK”.

Edinburgh’s new St. James Quarter is poised to bring world class retail to the city. As a company we are incredibly excited to sit alongside some of the biggest names in Retail along with a selection of exciting food and drink offerings from the likes of Bonnie & Wilde and Bross Bagels. Working alongside Edinburgh based design agency Four-By-Two the new store design will showcase a blend of urban and outdoors with a Scandinavian twist. From the striking shingle ceiling detailing to the 'axe museum' embedded in the back wall this is store designed for play and exploration. Four-by-Two’s design director Cameron Welsh describes the space as;

 “a combination of nature, rustic materials, all fused with harder-edged industrial forms, coming together in a space that is full of surprises. From the timber, shingle ceiling, to the black ‘barn-wall’ and axe display, there’s so much to explore & experience, and that doesn’t even account for the amazing product mix!”
