The coming of April and the change of the hour means that Spring has finally arrived. Even if the weather seems to disagree.

Longer days mean more time to spend out and about in the sun. The weather warming up opens up a host of possibilities for outdoor activities. Let’s not get too carried away though, we’re still in Scotland and the changing of the seasons means very little to our wild and windy weather. The weather can change in an instant meaning you need to be prepared for all eventualities.

You need a jacket that can protect you from the wind, rain and sleet. Your jacket will also need to be breathable for the occasional sunny spells we experience at this time of year. Such a jacket can be a hard thing to find. Heavy jackets with membranes like Gore-Tex will be uncomfortable in any strenuous circumstances, and a lightweight fleece or hoodie won’t be very useful once the inevitable Spring shower starts.

Finding a great jacket to add to your Spring wardrobe can be a daunting task especially when salespeople start throwing “hydrostatic head” and “fill power” at you. Luckily the experts here at Nordic Outdoor have picked out 4 of the best jackets suited to Spring from our new stock.

Keb Jacket

An old favourite, the award winning Keb Jacket has been redesigned with a more modern fit and updated materials to increase freedom of movement and durability. This men’s windproof jacket is custom designed to keep you moving. With stretch fabrics and incredible breathability, this jacket is the perfect choice for hikers, kayakers, dog walkers and everything in between this Spring.

The G-1000 fabric is incredibly durable and can take a beating. It also breaths well whilst offering excellent wind resistance. What makes this jacket perfect for Spring however is its adaptability.

Much like the Scottish weather, Fjallraven jackets can change their properties with alarming speed. With the application of Fjallraven Greenland Wax, you can add multiple layers of waterproofing to your garment. Once the weather improves, simply wash the jacket to remove the wax and return it to maximum breathability.

With its excellent freedom of movement, adaptability and durability this is a brilliant Spring jacket for anyone looking to get active in the outdoors over the Spring and Summer.

Oslo 3L Coat

Windproof, waterproof, stylish and sustainable. What’s not to love? At Nordic Outdoor we’re really excited to be stocking Bergans of Norway for the first time and it’s items like this that show why.

The Oslo 3L coat was made as part of the Bergans Oslo collection. The aim of the Oslo collection was to produce fashionable clothes for the city with the technical aspects of hiking outdoor gear. The combination of the best materials available and decades of experience have produced a women’s waterproof coat that will last you through many seasons.

Featuring a 3 layer design this coat is perfect for Spring time in the city. Waterproof, windproof and breathable the Oslo 3L is sure to be a firm favourite in your Spring wardrobe.

Another fantastic alternative would be the Cecilie wool Jacket! check it out here.

Marius Shell Parka

If there’s one thing Didriksons do better than the rest, it’s waterproof jackets. The Marius Shell is a men’s waterproof jacket that acts to highlight the qualities expected in Didriksons garments.

Didriksons started off making work clothes for fishermen. Waterproof coats are their area of expertise. What sets the Marius shell aside from other waterproof jackets is its lighter weight and improved breathability.

When people look to buy a waterproof jacket, many believe that a jacket with a membrane, like Gore-Tex, is the way to go. At Nordic Outdoor we respectfully disagree. In our experience the sacrifice to breathability that these jackets must take doesn’t weigh up with the benefits. If you are taking part in any sort of strenuous activity outdoors a membrane jacket will quickly become uncomfortable.

For a better choice this Spring look no further than the Marius shell parka. 100% waterproof and windproof whilst maintaining a light feel to compliment outdoor activity.

High Coast Wind Anorak

Another coat from outdoor heavyweights Fjallraven makes our list. The High Coast Wind anorak is a women’s windproof jacket built with ultimate packability in mind. The HC Lite fabric is fully wind resistant, quick drying and durable.

Featuring a kangaroo pocket that doubles as a carry pack this ultra-lightweight jacket is a brilliant answer to unexpected Spring showers.

Pack it up, put it in your backpack and you’ll never be unprepared for inclement weather again.

Don’t be fooled by its light weight and dainty appearance though. Like all Fjallraven garments this jacket is built to last. Pick one up now and you’ll be prepared for Spring for years to come!
