Kavu

KAVU stands for Klear Above Visibility unlimited, an old aviation term referring to when there isn’t a single cloud in the sky. The brand started in 1933 beginning with selling solely their classic strap cap, a revolutionary hat for the time which could be guaranteed to stay on your head in all conditions. The idea came to the founder whilst working as a commercial fisherman where he would lose many hats due to the harsh conditions out on the sea. This ethos of design through experience still remains as a core principle of KAVU, who look to make fashionable, functional clothing for the outdoors in order to help you brave any adventure. The brand look to make their clothes functional for even the most specialised of sports which is shown through their ambassadors which do activities such as Climbing, sailing, base jumping and paragliding, a favourite past time of the founder.

KAVU puts sustainability at the forefront of their company, from production to general office work every part has been thought of. Almost every KAVU product is blue sign and Oeko Tex Certified, during packaging of products, usually a big impact for the environment KAVU has made their packages biodegradable and compostable in order to allow for the customer to easily bin the bag in an eco-friendly way. Even within the office they have removed almost all physical paper by digitally scanning everything to be used online where possible. KAVU also cares about the nature around them, they donate 20% of the production cost of their Orca Sock to the Center of Whale Research, a non-profit which studies and cares for the Orca population in the Pacific Northwest. Though on top of this when you are buying KAVU you are buying into more than just their designs and items.

The brand has built a strong community who are all interested in living each day to the fullest and commonly share the same values as KAVU. The brand helps to support this community through initiatives such as the Mountain Goat Movement which aims to expose young people to challenging, rewarding adventures which allows them to try a range of outdoor activities and hear from huge inspirations within the outdoor and exploration scene.
