66°North is back with their first collection of 2024 entitled ‘Leaving Home’. The collection aims to provide functional essentials through the use of technical high-performance fabrics.  66°North aims to embody that feeling of almost childlike joy that many of us experience when stepping outside on a perfect day. Whether your perfect day is sunny or a perfect storm, their new collection has pieces for every preference. As said by the brand “leaving home is inspired by that moment when you open the door, turn to the sunlight and realise that spring has arrived”. They continued, “When there’s a promise of warmer brighter months in the air”.

This collection marks the first set of designs by Kei Toyoshima who took the role of creative director of the brand in 2022. Kei previously and continues to work alongside other staple fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton, Bottega Venetta and Maison Margiela. The experience and creativity he gained through previous roles shines through in this collection with a unique choice of colours and patterns for the collection. Jackets such as the Laugardalur feature a blurred camo design where this type of military inspiration can be seen in previous collections of brands he used to work for. Whilst the brand still uses black for many pieces there is also several items which come in darker shades of colours such as blue and red, which previously was not used much. This can be seen to relate back to the idea of the collection as to offer unique colours whilst not distracting or clashing with the colours that spring bring, but instead allowing them to work in harmony.

The collection features standout items such as the Vindur jacket, retaining the brands slogan ‘Keeping Iceland warm since 1926’, with its fleece-lined wool blend fabric which is perfect for days when the wind hits and you need protection from the elements. The new Jadar pants offer weather ready versatility which can be extremely useful especially during the British Spring where the weather can be unpredictable. Being a half-length zip off they can be turned into shorts if the sun makes a guest appearance or turned into trousers from shorts when the rain (inevitably) returns.
