It’s no secret that 66°North is one of our favourite brands here at Nordic Outdoor. While the history of the brand stretches all the way back to 1926 it is only in the past few years their popularity outside of Scandinavia has exploded. Here in the UK Nordic Outdoor is proud to be the only outdoor retailer currently working with 66°North and when the opportunity to road test their new running collection came up, we jumped at the chance.
We teamed up with local running club ‘Brae’ who focus on trail and high altitude running to create a 10km course which takes in Arthurs Seat, the UK’s most popular trail running route. Leaving from our St James Quarter store we took in a range of surroundings including city, hills, woodlands and road along with 20 intrepid runners from around the city. Before the run we limbered up with some rooftop Yoga courtesy of company friend Luciana Gaviao and after the run we treated ourselves to some pastries from Edinburgh’s finest – The Palmerston.
Having tested both the Grettir T-Shirt during the Edinburgh Marathon and the Stadarfell Neoshell Jacket during the Peak Divide I was well aware that the 66°North running collection was not a case of style over substance. In developing the range the brand worked with runners, cyclists, and fast hikers to design a range that balances the protection they need with the agility they demand - all to enable more time in nature. Perfect for the road or the trail. The new collection uses some of the best available fabrics including Gore-Tex Infinium, Polartec Delta and Polartec Power Grid.
All of our participants were incredibly enthusiastic about the performance aspects of the new collection and we can’t wait for the temperature to drop so we can get out to the Pentlands and road test the Straumnes Jacket and Straumnes Trackpants which look like the gold standard of Winter trail running outfits.
